Teacher Notes
✅ No prior yoga experience required
-
This class is designed so any teacher (even if they’ve never practiced yoga) can lead it with confidence.
-
The cues are simple, kid-friendly, and easy to remember.
-
Visuals (like “growing like a tree” or “twinkling like stars”) make the movements natural for children.
✅ Great for classroom transitions, brain breaks, or end-of-day calm
-
Use a shortened 5–10 minute version if you only need a quick reset between subjects.
-
Perfect before tests, after recess, or anytime students need to settle and refocus.
-
Works as a calm end-of-day ritual that helps students leave the classroom feeling grounded.
✅ Adaptable for different ages and timeframes
-
Younger students (ages 3–6): simplify the poses, keep transitions playful, shorten storytelling.
-
Older students (ages 7–12): extend storytelling, add balance challenges, encourage reflection in discussion questions.
-
Teens: focus more on breathwork, mindfulness, and quiet reflection at the end.
-
Adjust the length by repeating the warm-up or yoga flow more than once, or trimming if time is short.
✅ Encourages SEL (social-emotional learning) skills
-
Students practice self-awareness (naming feelings, affirmations).
-
Social skills grow when kids share gratitude in circle time or partner activities.
-
Promotes self-regulation through calming breathwork and mindful movement.
✅ Classroom management tips
-
Set a clear beginning and end ritual (like an affirmation or hand gesture) so students know when yoga starts and ends.
-
Encourage participation but allow children to observe quietly if they prefer — choice creates safety.
-
Use props like flashlights, glow stars, or simple nature objects to spark imagination and keep engagement high.
✅ Space & setup flexibility
-
A gym, classroom with desks pushed aside, library corner, or even outside works fine.
-
Students don’t need yoga mats — a carpet square, blanket, or just floor space is enough.
-
Encourage shoes off if possible, but it can still work with shoes on.
✅ Benefits you’ll notice
-
Children are calmer and more focused after practicing.
-
Builds classroom community by encouraging kindness, gratitude, and shared experiences.
-
Gives teachers an easy tool to manage energy without losing valuable instructional time.
