Mindful Movement That Supports Learning & Behavior
Why Yoga Fits Public Programs So Well
In a world full of screens, noise, and overstimulation, kids and families are craving calm, connection, and meaningful movement. Yoga offers all of that—and more—in a format that’s engaging, adaptable, and accessible for all ages. Whether it's a weekly storytime series, a seasonal family event, or a special summer reading celebration, yoga fits seamlessly into your public programming.
Root and Roar Yoga offers screen-free, equipment-free sessions that spark imagination, promote self-regulation, and foster community connection. These sessions require minimal setup, but deliver big value—encouraging kids to move their bodies, calm their minds, and enjoy learning in a playful and inclusive environment.
Best of all, yoga supports many of the same goals as your library or community center: literacy, creativity, emotional development, and social bonding. It’s not just an activity—it’s a tool for lifelong well-being that families will thank you for including.
🌟 Benefits of Kids Yoga in Libraries & Community Spaces:

Developmentally Appropriate Yoga
That Grows With Kids & Teens
Tailored Programs for Every Age Group
Root and Roar Yoga offers developmentally appropriate sessions designed to meet kids exactly where they are—physically, emotionally, and socially. Each class is built around playful movement, calming breathwork, and self-awareness tools, with content adapted for age, group dynamics, and space.

Toddlers & Preschoolers (Ages 2–5):
Our youngest yogis love moving like animals, singing songs, and exploring their bodies in playful ways. These classes blend imagination, music, and gentle movement to support motor development, coordination, early social skills, and emotional expression. Sessions are short, engaging, and full of interactive elements to keep little ones curious and connected. Caregiver participation is welcome but not required.

Tweens & Preteens (Ages 10–13):
This transitional stage often brings big emotions, social pressure, and changing bodies. Our tween yoga classes offer a safe, inclusive space where kids can unwind, move, and explore who they are—without judgment. We focus on balance, breath, and body confidence, with plenty of options and choices so participants feel empowered and respected. Sessions may include journaling, guided relaxation, and mindful discussions.

Elementary Kids (Ages 6–10):
At this age, kids are ready to dive deeper into movement, breathwork, and self-regulation tools—without losing the fun! We weave in stories, games, partner activities, and mindfulness practices to help kids build confidence, focus, and body awareness. These sessions are lively and engaging while still offering calming, centering moments kids can carry into daily life.

Teens (Ages 14–18):
Teens often deal with stress from academics, friendships, and identity exploration. Our teen programs offer grounding practices for mental wellness, physical health, and emotional resilience. Classes can be designed as gentle yoga for stress relief, stronger flows for physical fitness, or trauma-informed practices centered around self-care and empowerment. We also offer yoga to support mental health groups, leadership programs, or student wellness initiatives.

Rooted in SEL, Designed for Real-Life Growth
What Kids Learn
Through Our Programs
Our curriculum is grounded in Social-Emotional Learning and child development best practices. Every class introduces simple, powerful tools for navigating emotions, building healthy relationships, and feeling confident in one’s body and mind.
Each program we offer is built around affirmations and age-appropriate themes like “I Am Brave” (confidence), “I Am Calm” (emotional regulation), “I Am Kind” (empathy and compassion), and “I Am Focused” (attention and self-control). These messages are repeated through yoga poses, group games, breathwork, visualizations, storytelling, and sharing circles—so kids learn by doing, not just listening.
Alongside movement and mindfulness, students explore:
🌬️ Breathing exercises for calming down
💬 Affirmations to build self-worth
👂 Mindful listening and communication skills
📚 SEL storytelling woven into class themes
🧠 Tools to handle test stress, big emotions, and more
Whether it’s a 6-week series or a one-time class, our lessons leave a lasting impact.
✅ Playful + Purposeful — kids stay engaged while learning real-life tools
✅ Integrated SEL — we blend mindfulness, movement, and mental wellness
✅ Theme-Based Learning — each series focuses on a core emotional or social strength
Supporting kids starts with one mindful step.
